As they say, time flies when you’re having fun!

This past year was filled with exciting activities that got kicked off right in September at our Season Opening Gala & Illumination Awards jazz session; October brought us on a spooky backstage tour and ghostly show at Vertigo Theatre which was followed in November with a Technical Luncheon on theatre lighting and control systems. As winter is the darkest time of year it was appropriate to learn about virtual skylights and windows and find inspiration in 100 words for light, and as the sun swung back north, we increased our understanding of the biological effects of light, then considered why we’re drawn to decorative luminaires and warm intimate spaces.

Our commitment to next-gen education was displayed with another highly attended in-person Fundamentals of Lighting course, a “local only” Lighten Up luminaire building competition, and Emerging Professionals trivia night.

Finally, frivolity abounded at our annual Zoo Lights holiday party, industry renown golf tournament, and stampede party at Ranchman’s with our friends at the ECAA.

As always, our plan is to keep on going, producing Calgary’s leading architectural lighting events to ensure our community is currently educated, conversing, and having a good time. Technical Luncheons and the Fundamentals of Lighting course will form our education foundation while Building Tours and the Keynote blend into the “edu-social”. We’ll still be leaning into the good times at the Zoo Lights Holiday Party, Golf Tournament, Ranchman’s Stampede roundup, and Emerging Professional Gatherings. Details on all these plans including our Illumination Awards will be shared at our Season Opening Gala on September 17th at cSPACE in Marda Loop – Don’t miss it!
