Kate DeBellis, LEED AP, CDT began her career in architecture, specializing in commercial and high-end residential projects in the Los Angeles area. She soon found her niche in daylighting design, working with various scientifically-backed companies to integrate natural light into commercial spaces. Over time, she transitioned into electric lighting, serving as a manufacturer's representative and acting as a link between manufacturing, sales, and architectural design.

Driven by a desire to push the boundaries of commercial lighting, Kate partnered with Jonathan Clark to launch Innerscene in the North American market. Together, they are redefining the future of architectural lighting by blending cutting-edge daylighting technology and the science of light with electric lighting. Their work provides a biophilic connection to the outdoors, supporting human well-being by delivering the right spectrum of light at the right time, and showcasing what the future of lighting in architecture can truly be.

Presented by Kate Debellis, Innerscene Lighting

Windowless spaces present one of the most persistent challenges in modern building design — yet they also offer some of the greatest opportunities for innovation in lighting and human-centric design.

Join the IES Calgary Section for our January Technical Luncheon, where we will explore how virtual daylighting solutions are redefining the experience of interior environments that lack access to natural light. This session will examine how advanced lighting technologies can replicate the visual and biological benefits of daylight, transforming how occupants feel, perform, and connect to their surroundings.

Whether you are designing healthcare facilities, commercial interiors, educational environments, or other enclosed spaces, this presentation will provide practical insights and research-backed strategies to help you specify lighting that supports wellbeing, productivity, and compliance with today’s leading standards.
